Introduction

12-15.000 Norwegians volunteered to fight for the Germans during the last world war. In Norway they were called «frontkjempere», which translates to «front fighters». Of these 12-15.000, about 4.500 saw battle with the Waffen-SS against the «communist enemy» at the Eastern Front.1 When the war ended, about 700-800 Norwegian (SS) volunteers had died for Hitler and his new Europe.2
